Her Last Battle, My Endless Memory

Stitched Book | Digital and print Component | Cancer

Her Last Battle, My Endless Memory is a reflection on the profound experience of losing my grandmother to cancer. She was not only my grandmother, but also my best friend. Remembered as a fighter, she displayed strength and resilience until her final moments. This work is both a tribute to her life and an exploration of the enduring impact of love, loss, and memory.

My goal for this project is to inform, but also tell my grandma’s story through her strength as she fought through cancer. I want this project to be personal but also universal; I want it to touch anyone and everyone who has lost someone to cancer.

Medium #1:

A stitch-bound book will display both personal and universal; it can be unfolded like a journey. In this project, I will use a butterfly (illustration, cut-out) that appears across panels as a symbol to guide the reader through the use of large, bold words or phrases from my text. like “Awareness”, “Connection”, “inspiration”, “Legacy,” and “Encouragement.” I decided to use that font for these bold words because my grandma used to sew and knit my clothes when I was little. It has some meaning.

Medium #2

An interactive website, both personal and universal. This interactive website about cancer is designed to connect both the personal and universal experiences of the disease. Through a blend of storytelling, data visualization, and interactive design, the site invites users to engage with cancer not only as a medical condition but as a shared human experience that touches lives across all backgrounds. I wanted the website to match my accordion book. The gradient is light to dark, which represents the contrast between having her in my life and not having her, and that's how I’m going to design my cover page.
